A top priority for familes who are moving into the Eastern North Carolina area with school aged kids, is where will they go to school. As we are basically covering a four county area of North Carolina I will provide some public information and reports of other sources that should help you.
If you are trying to learn more about the schools for the neighborhood you are considering you have very good options and resources at you disposal. First I recommend you contact the local Board of Education and discuss your assigned school and it's performance in the district. Another source is the N.C. School Report Card website that you can use. You will need to know the county and the school name for this site. A third option is the Great Schools site located at the right. Of course if you know people in the area already with similarly aged children they are often the best source of information and insight.
Enrolling your child for the first time in a North Carolina Public School? You will need to come to the assigned school with your child in order to enroll them.
Here's some basic information and documentation that you will need. Again it would be best to confirm with the local school or school board what their specific requirements are.
- Birth certificate of the child
- Immunization records
- Valid drivers license of partent of guardian
- Childs social security card
- Proof of residence ( lease agreement, sales contract, utility bill)
- Any custody documentation
Here's some sites you can go to for more general or specific information on schools, requirements, and end of year testing.
If you are thinking about going to college, retraining for a new career, or finishing your degree there are several options available to you or a family member.
